The man who wanted to go home ...

A beautiful summer's evening. Beach bar. Setting sun. John46. Just marvelous.

John46 is British and has the best of the best of British accents. As one knows, there are British accents and there British accents. John46's was knee-knockingly lovely. And I have a penchant for the best of the best of British accents. John46 has been in this country for a very long time and can boast a successful career and lifestyle. We struck up an instant rapport and had a hilariously funny and fun evening. Cocktails became dinner as it so often does. We chatted and laughed (loudly) non-stop and had much common ground to cover.

However, John46 was exhausted. Well, he was seemingly so (no yawning though) as he kept asking if we should not retire to his place which happened to be just down the way, also overlooking the ocean. He suggested such after the first cocktail when it was still sunny. John46 was clearly very exhausted if he sought to retire so early. He boasted the best Gin and Tonic and would have champagne on ice in a jiffy.

I dismissed his suggestion saying "what for? we are here, let's just order!" No point in moving from the glorious spot we were in, thought I. I think I must have dismissed this suggestion of John46's a lot: I dismissed it after the cocktails, after the champagne, after the fillet, after the pudding, after the coffee. John46 gets 10 out of 10 for trying. He gets zero out of 10 for listening skills. But John46 was not giving up. We stayed for pudding. We enjoyed a cup of coffee. He suggested we have a nightcap at his place. I suggested we order the nightcap right where we were. We ordered the nightcap.

Then it was midnight and the establishment was winding down. It was home time. Home alone time.

Yes, I did hear from John46 again. And again. And again. He was clever though. The very next date he invited me on was for sundowners and dinner at home! Clever boy. Well, it may have been with someone other than Mary1. Not so fast John46.
