I have been threatening to write up Project Boyfriend for literally years - it's a kind of a local armchair travelogue covering the highways and byways of dating of an over-40 year old. A few weeks ago I was whatsapp'ing the special now very sadly ex-boyfriend of my eldest recounting my latest Project Boyfriend escapade and I said "Patti, I have to write a book - this is just too good not to share" - his response was - " ... you've been saying that for years!" And so I have. The idea came to me thanks to the wild suggestion of Adrianne van Westenbrugge. She is quite possibly the best person to tell a hilarious or even a not-so-hilarious story to - she laughs more heartily than anyone I know and best of all she finds me quite funny, too! She has loved my adventures as I have journeyed on Project Boyfriend as have many other long-suffering friends (and even some of their parents - Coenie and Nunu de Roubaix are loyal followers of this rocky terrain!)
So we have Adrianne to thank for sowing the seeds of this idea and Patti to thank for kicking me in the proverbial butt and getting me down to writing my travelogue as I have journeyed through the wild and treacherous landscape of boyfriends and dates!
Project Boyfriend is dedicated to all my dates, boyfriends, man friends and girlfriends who have journeyed with me over the past four years - it has been more fun and funny than painful - a bit like real travel I suppose, but without those long waits in airport lounges. My dates and boyfriends played the lead roles, my man friends and girlfriends played the role of a great audience. Here's to each one of you!
